MADISON, Wisconsin – The Annual Dane County Fair Small Animal Market Sale was held on July 19, 2025. Sixteen youth exhibitors offered the sale’s 35 lots which included 7 turkeys, 20 broiler chickens and roaster pairs, 4 ducks, and 4 lots of rabbits. The sale generated a total of $15,175.
The largest supporters of the sale this year were Blue Star Dairy Middleton LLC, who bought three lots for a total of $1,275. State Farm Insurance, Mike O’Connor, successfully bid on two lots for $1,250; and Hensen Hoof Care INC. was the winning bidder of two lots for $1,200.
Sale Chairman, Mitchell Schleicher of Brooklyn, was appreciative of the support shown the youth exhibitors of Dane County. “The sale went great! The youth did an excellent job getting their birds ready, and our group of buyers did an outstanding job helping our youth with their futures,” says Schleicher.
A young duck female by Rachel Behrens, Brooklyn, claimed the Champion Market Poultry Award, and was purchased by Edward Jones for $350. Champion Market rabbit was claimed by Ellie Makos, Blue Mounds, sold for $225 to Ben Berre. Ian Batker, Oregon, exhibited the Reserve Champion Poultry entry, a pair of Roasters that was purchased by Top Notch Feed and Pet Supply for $475. The Reserve Champion Market was a Fryer from Hannah Jacobson, Edgerton, sold to Reilly’s Rabbits for $200. The champion entries were auctioned first during the event. Successful bidders at the auction also included: Schleicher Seed Solutions, Makos Woodworking, Voss Dairy Farm, Pat Hawkey, Kyle Smith, Story Creek Farms, Darrell Walser, Country View Equine Clinic, Metalcraft Industries, Ace In The Hole Transport, Farmers and Merchant's Union Bank of Columbus, Kelley Kluckers, Langer Dairy Farms LLC, Cutting Edge Lawn Care and Snow Removal, K & M Livestock, Maier Family, Wolff's Bellefontaine Farms, Hyper Sports, Ed Miller, Batker Farms, Sutter Hidden Hill Dairy, Varesi Service and Repair, and Martinson Farms.
