Dane County Fair to Crown Aubrey Schlimgen at 2023 Breakfast on the Farm

04/04/2023

MADISON, WIS. – Congratulations to the 2023 Dane County Fairest of the Fair, Aubrey Schlimgen of Marshall. Schlimgen will be crowned at the Dane County Breakfast on the Farm to be held Saturday, June 10 at Kahl Family Farm, 8385 County Highway A, Verona, WI. The public is invited to attend the presentation of Schlimgen who was selected for this role at the April selection event.

Schlimgen is the daughter of Tony and Jackie Schlimgen. She is a graduate of Marshall High School and is currently working on her family’s farm (Schlimgen Farms) milking 280 registered Jersey and Grade Holstein cows. Her other farm responsibilities also include feeding and tending to the calves, administering medications and vaccinations as needed, and assisting her father with making managerial decisions on the farm when it comes to breeding, registrations, and document/record keeping. Schlimgen has been a long-time exhibitor of the Dane County Fair for 10 years showing dairy and beef cattle as well as projects in other departments including photography and plants and soil science.

When Schlimgen is not working on the family farm, she spends her time volunteering and helping others as it is one of her favorite things to do. Schlimgen has volunteered with 4-H, Badger Honor Flight, FFA, Adopt A Highway, and Second Harvest Foodbank to name a few. In addition to volunteering, Schlimgen has a passion for leadership. She has held committee and treasurer positions in her 4-H Club (Medina Marvels) and a variety of positions in FFA – Middle School Vice President, Sentinel, Vice President of Ag Literacy, and President.

“Showing at the Dane County Fair has given me the opportunity to develop and enhance my networking and communication skills to support my future goal of being a motivational speaker with a focus on agriculture. It is important to educate and inspire the next generation to become agriculturalists and the leaders that we need to feed, clothe, and fuel the world,” stated Schlimgen. She also added that “the Fair has also enriched my love of giving others encouragement, support, and inspiration. I have been in the shoes of the youth exhibitors for a good portion of my life, and I know how important it is to have someone cheering you on and being in your corner. As Dane County Fairest of the Fair, I plan to offer the same encouragement and support to all those I interact with at this year’s Fair!”

In this role, Schlimgen will attend community events promoting the upcoming Dane County Fair, July 20–23 as well as additional events across the state. She will make daily appearances at the Fair meeting fairgoers, presenting awards to youth exhibitors, and participating in various activities. Community members can keep up with her year as Dane County Fairest of the Fair by liking the Dane County Fairest of the Fair Facebook page.

In the heart of Madison, the Dane County Fair is home to free concerts, stunt shows, animals, a carnival, and all the best fair foods. With over a 170-year history, the Dane County Fair will once again be held at the Alliant Energy Center, July 20–23, 2023.
